Celebrating National Volunteer Week in Halton

The UN General Assembly has proclaimed 2026 as the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development. International Volunteer Year is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to celebrate the power of civic participation and renew Halton’s culture of volunteering.
Volunteer Canada has proclaimed the theme of Ignite Volunteerism for the 2026 National Volunteer Week celebrations, April 19 to April 25, 2026.
At Volunteer Halton, Ignite Volunteerism means inspiring Halton residents to reconnect with their communities through acts of service, civic action, and mutual support. We invite people from all backgrounds to “Find Your Thing” and to discover ways that you can contribute to your community, whether through local events, grassroots initiatives, or ongoing volunteer commitments.
Explore opportunities on Volunteer Connector (www.volunteerconnector.org), attend one of Volunteer Halton’s Volunteer Fairs in 2026, or talk to a Volunteer Ambassador at your local library.
To Ignite Volunteerism in Halton Region, CDH and Volunteer Halton invite volunteers, leaders of volunteers, and organizational leaders to join us at one of four (4) National Volunteer Week Community Celebrations. At each of these events, we’ll be celebrating the incredible contributions of our fellow citizens as we hand out Cheers to Volunteers and Halton Volunteer Impact Awards in each municipality. In addition to these awards, Volunteer Halton will also recognize one deserving older adult with the Heather Thompson Volunteer Excellence Award and one volunteer community organizer with the Kristen Harding Community Organizer Award. A full list of award recipients will be released during National Volunteer Week.
