Housing, food insecurity, income, poverty and casting your vote

On April 23rd, Community Development Halton partnered with Food for Life and Open Doors to host an event called Eat Think Vote. About 60 community members gathered to talk about voting and the voting resources we have developed. Some Halton candidates were in the room to hear community stories that spoke to the the intersection of issues such as housing, income, employment and food insecurity. The stories aligned with current data on growing poverty in Halton (12.5% across Halton) and the challenging systemic issues faced in our community by many of our neighbours. Participants spent time considering policy and other practical solutions to address the growing inequality in Halton. It was a powerful afternoon of sharing and community conversation.
