Negotiating Funding Agreements: In-Person Working Session Designed for: CEOs/EDs, CFOs, Fund Development team members (staff/volunteers), Board Chairs, Grant writers, and those involved in funding/fundraising/revenue generation activities in the nonprofit sector


In this in-person workshop, participants work systematically through the who, what, when, where, and why of funding agreements. Ontario transfer payments are taken as an example and standard provisions are reviewed and explained. A workbook is provided and participants should leave with a negotiation strategy.


Learning outcomes include:

  • Why the circumstances around funding agreements often prevent nonprofits from being able to negotiate effectively

  • How nonprofits can improve the conditions in which they negotiate

  • The legal meaning of common funding agreement provisions
