Board of DirectorsCommunity Development Halton is seeking volunteer board members to help guide the organization into the future.Mission: Through research, community development, planning and promoting volunteerism Community Development Halton strives to improve the quality of life for all residents of Halton. Community Development Halton (CDH) is a nonprofit charitable organization whose mandate is to strengthen communities by building a strong civil society that fosters equity at the community level. CDH’s community-based research and development activities serve Halton’s nonprofit and voluntary sector agencies, municipal and regional government and local grass roots organizations concerned with the well being of people in their community. CDH works through two program areas, Social Planning and Volunteer Halton, which promote and nurture civic engagement, inclusion and innovation. Social Planning helps communities to assess their challenges and strengths and determine what change should be made to improve the quality of life of their residents. Social planning activities build community social infrastructure, encourage dialogue on critical social issues and act in the public interest. Volunteer Halton is an advocate and catalyst for volunteerism, providing leadership and support for volunteer efforts to build a healthy and socially innovative community. The Board of Directors, made up of volunteers who live or work in Halton Region, governs the work of CDH. Directors are elected at the Corporation’s Annual General Meeting held each year in September. Board meetings are held monthly, on the first Monday of the month, except in July and August. A full description of the work and responsibilities of a board member is available here (PDF). As an organization, CDH seeks to reflect the strengths and diversity of the community it serves.
